Samangad Fort - See nature at her wild best. In and Around Amboli & Gadhinglaj (On the way to GOA)

One can reach the fort plateau region from Kolhapur (90 km) and from Gadhinglaj (20 km), then via Bhadgaon and Chinchewadi villages.

There are two big canons of foreign make besides the well in Chinchewadi village. Samangad is a hill fort in Kolhapur District, Maharashtra.

It is 2,600 feet (790 m) above sea level.

The Shilahar king Bhoj II built this fort. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj won this fort in 1667. In 1688, the Mughals won the fort and the Marathas won back the fort before 1701. This fort is a tomb of famous warrior Shri Prataprao Gujar who fought against the Adil Shahi army of Bahalul Khan with only six soldiers. Stories are told by local from generation to generation.

A secret doorway and as we proceed the ridge becomes narrow and we come to a double fortified bastion. Opposite this bastion, we can see a small raised ground which the locals believe that the Mughal army built it to attack the bastion. People around this fort celebrate Samangad fair on the first Wednesday after Shivratri which is in February or March every year.

During this time they perform a lot of events including bullock cart race, horse cart race, bicycle race, entertainment during night time and much more.

No Hotels are available on the Fort. Even No Restaurants are available. Carry your own food and plenty of Drinking water. Use Dustbins for waste. Nearest City - Gadhinglaj
